Student & Family Privacy Policy & Family 

At Sunrise Oasis Academy of Reading (SOAR), we respect the privacy of our students and their families. Information provided to SOAR is collected and maintained for the purpose of supporting the education, safety, security, and well-being of each student.

Purpose of Collecting Information

The information provided by parents, guardians, and caregivers may be used to:

• Help teachers and staff better understand and support the student's educational needs.

• Provide appropriate educational, behavioral, and academic support.

• Communicate with parents, guardians, and authorized caregivers regarding the student's education, safety, or well-being.

• Contact appropriate family members or emergency contacts when a student is in need of assistance or in an emergency.

• Help protect the safety and security of students and staff.

Access to Student and Family Information

Access to student and family information is limited to authorized SOAR staff members who have a legitimate need to know the information in order to perform their responsibilities.

During the current school year, appropriate teachers and staff may have access to the contact information necessary to communicate with parents, guardians, caregivers, or emergency contacts when needed.

Access to more sensitive or confidential student information will be limited and managed through the CEO, Counselor, and Lead Teacher, as appropriate.

Disclosure of Information

Student and family information will not be shared with individuals outside of SOAR unless:

• The disclosure is necessary to protect the student's health, safety, or well-being;

• The parent or legal guardian has authorized the disclosure;

• The information must be provided to an appropriate individual or agency as required by law; or

• The disclosure is otherwise permitted or required by applicable law.

When information is shared within SOAR, it will be shared only for the purpose of supporting the student's education, safety, security, or well-being.

Safeguarding Information

SOAR will take reasonable steps to safeguard the information provided by families and to prevent unauthorized access, use, or disclosure.

Student and family information will be handled with professionalism, discretion, and respect for the privacy of each student and family.

Our goal is to create a safe and supportive educational environment while ensuring that families can trust SOAR to handle their information responsibly.
